Stress and anxiety

Citalopram is an SSRI antidepressant. It is prescribed for depression and panic disorders ( 2022 and NG222 guidelines). For mood stabilization or workplace stress, citalopram does not work: no clinical studies of such use exist. The drug has serious risks: dose-dependent QT-interval prolongation ( warning, 2011; maximum dose limited to 40 mg, 20 mg in older adults), sexual dysfunction, discontinuation syndrome, and increased suicide risk in young adults (FDA boxed warning). If citalopram was prescribed for stress or mood stabilization, consider seeking a second opinion.
