Anti-aging and longevity

Diltiazem is a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It is prescribed for hypertension, stable angina, and rate control in atrial fibrillation ( 2023, SEH-LELHA, 2017). In healthy normotensives, diltiazem is used for vascular protection from aging. In people with normal blood pressure, no clinical studies of prophylactic use exist. The drug causes bradycardia, PR-interval prolongation with risk of atrioventricular block (especially combined with β-blockers), ankle edema, and constipation. Diltiazem is a CYP3A4 inhibitor causing multiple drug interactions. If diltiazem was prescribed to a person with normal blood pressure, consider seeking a second opinion.
